LYNN BOWMAN:
Director of Leadership Development

Lynn Bowman has been a foundational presence in Excelle since its earliest days, serving as a visionary thought partner to founder Amanda as she shaped Excelle's mission and built its programming from the ground up. That originating influence continues to define Lynn's work at Excelle today, where she serves as Director of Leadership Development.

Lynn's relationship with independent schools is not merely professional — it is deeply personal. She grew up in independent schools as one of the few, and often the only, Black student in her classes. That experience of navigating institutions not yet built for her became the seed of a lifelong commitment to transforming them. Over the course of more than twenty years, she was promoted from faculty member to Division Director to Assistant Head of School. A central architect of the school's transformation into a more diverse, inclusive, and equitable institution, Lynn founded Gordon's Institute for Multicultural Practice, partnered with Roger Williams University to establish a year-long teacher residency program culminating in a Master's degree in Teaching, and created the Civil Rights 8th grade trip, now in its 25th year.

The initiatives Lynn built during those years reflect the same instincts that define her work today: a clear vision, the ability to bring diverse stakeholders into collaboration, and a gift for designing learning experiences that are rigorous, expansive, and held in community. When her desire to work directly and deeply with leaders outgrew what an administrative role could hold, Lynn left Gordon School to found Lynn Bowman Consulting — bringing more than twenty-five years of experience in independent schools, higher education, and nonprofits to leaders across sectors. She consults with schools, nonprofits, and boards on leadership and team development, helping leaders build trust, navigate conflict, and foster accountable, inclusive teams — designing custom programming that leads to lasting impact.

As an executive leadership coach specializing in embodied leadership, Lynn integrates intellectual clarity with somatic awareness, emotional intelligence, and presence — helping leaders respond with greater calm, alignment, and choice.

Lynn is a graduate of the Georgetown University Executive Leadership Coaching Program, and she is credentialed by the International Coaching Federation. She has completed her somatic coaching certification with Strozzi Institute and is a certified practitioner of Leadership Circle, EQ-i 2.0/360, and DiSC. She holds an MA and BA in American Literature from Sacramento State and Brown University, respectively.

At Excelle, Lynn works with the team in designing and facilitating the monthly roundtable series, leads a team of executive coaches, and oversees the Coaching Circles program. She co-leads Excelle's Partner Coaching experience, supporting the vital relationship between Board chairs and Heads of School. She is committed to creating spaces where women can lead with greater authenticity, confidence, and clarity — on their own terms.
